Apollo runs its own database of business contact data and attaches sequence sending, dialling and call recording to the same interface. You look up an address and reach out to it without leaving the tool.

Work through this tool with an AI

Our verdict

Addresses and sending from one source save time and a second subscription. That does not amount to an edge: the same database is open to every competitor from USD 49 a month, and whatever a customer feeds in grows into that same database under the data processing agreement. It does not work as a company-wide capability either, because what you buy is raw material, while the judgement about who is worth approaching stays in house. In Germany a second point applies that appears on no feature list. Section 7(2)(2) of the Act Against Unfair Competition (Gesetz gegen den unlauteren Wettbewerb, UWG) requires prior express consent for advertising by email, business-to-business included, and a verified address does not replace that consent. Running the channel anyway buys reach and legal exposure in the same subscription. The tool does one job faster; it moves no position.

Who it fits

Solo

suitable

The free tier grants 900 credits per seat per year, released monthly, enough to inspect the database. Basic costs USD 49 per seat per month on annual billing. The price is affordable for one person. The duties travel along regardless: the notice required within one month under Article 14 GDPR to every contact approached is owed by the sender, and Apollo does not take it off their hands.

Mid-market

suitable

The package is cut for this size. Professional costs USD 79 per seat per month on annual billing and covers sequences, mailboxes, recording and reporting, which would otherwise be three subscriptions. The job in house is managing consumption, because credits expire at the end of the billing cycle and the fee follows the credits purchased rather than those used.

Enterprise

suitable with caveats

Single sign-on only arrives on the Organization plan, USD 119 per seat per month with a three-seat minimum. There is no public commitment on auditable access logs, processing takes place in the United States, and no European region is offered anywhere. What decides a procurement review is the data processing agreement itself: it expressly casts Apollo as an independent controller for matching against its own contact database, so the purchase cannot be mapped as pure processing on behalf of the customer.

Buy, switch or build

Off-the-shelf

Buy an established data vendor with documented provenance

ZoomInfo is the usual counterpart in large organisations, and for European procurement often Cognism, which explicitly markets the provenance of its German-language contacts as a feature. Corporates stay there because purchasing and data protection need a counterparty with a contact in Europe, named provenance for the records and negotiated audit rights. That is paid for with a multiple of the price and with terms measured in years rather than months.

AI-native

A workbench instead of a ready-made database

Clay keeps no database of its own; it queries several data providers in sequence and puts your own scoring logic on top. Entry sits at USD 167 a month against USD 49, and the sending layer is missing, so you buy that separately. In return it stays traceable why a company is on the list, and that reasoning belongs to you. What you give up is the convenience of searching and writing in the same interface, and you buy work rather than an outcome.

Build it yourself

Your own contact register with purchased addresses

A register in your own database, built with Claude Code, the model calls for classification and scoring routed through LiteLLM, the provider keys in Infisical, the scoring logic versioned in GitHub, the sending done through lemlist with storage in the European Union. Costed at EUR 900 a day and 10 to 15 person-days for a workable first version, the build lands between EUR 9,000 and 13,500, plus the cost of the addresses and ongoing operation; that calculation is an estimate. The point where this typically breaks is the database itself: addresses still have to be bought, so the build replaces the workbench and never the data source. Add deliverability as a discipline of its own, the Article 14 GDPR notification duty, which does not change, and the question of who maintains the register once the person who built it leaves.

Our advice

  • Solo: Start on the free tier and settle the consent question before the first campaign.
  • Mid-market: Buy Professional, review credit consumption monthly and write the Article 14 notice firmly into the process.
  • Enterprise: Organization only, with logging settled in writing beforehand and the independent controller role talked through with data protection.

Who is behind it

Staying power: Established

The company has been in the market since 2015 and last raised capital publicly in 2023. For a procurement review one point weighs more than the funding position: Apollo is registered as a data broker in several US states, and the business consists of selling details about people who initially know nothing of it. The database left open in 2018 is long past and still describes the order of magnitude such a collection holds.

Cost of leaving: Moderate

The data comes out and stays usable: the terms grant a perpetual licence to the lists produced, limited to your own internal business use and excluding resale. Exporting costs credits, so the way out of the system costs as well. What makes a switch genuinely hard sits in the data processing agreement: opt-outs and deletion requests notified by Apollo have to be applied to every record already exported, for as long as those records remain in house. That housekeeping continues long after the subscription has been cancelled. On top of that comes the deliverability of the connected mailboxes, which a new tool has to rebuild from scratch.

Regulation and data

How to read the traffic lightHow to read the traffic lightThe traffic light rates how well a point is evidenced, not how good the tool is. It draws only on the value, note and source held in the profile. Where a statement is missing, it rates the absence, not a guess. A well-reasoned "unclear" on a point that matters little for this tool is yellow. A missing source on a point that decides whether you can use it at all is red.documented, no condition attacheddocumented, tied to a conditiondocumented, but unfavourableopen on a point that decides usability

What it really costs

Entry price

Free with 900 credits per seat per year, released monthly. Basic costs USD 49 per seat per month on annual billing with 30,000 credits per seat per year, Professional USD 79 with 48,000 credits, Organization USD 119 with 72,000 credits and a three-seat minimum. Two add-on packages, one for inbound and one for advanced dialling, cost USD 119 per team per month each. All figures exclude tax.As of 2026-08-03Plans, credits per seat per year, single sign-on only on the Organization plan, add-on prices, exporting consumes creditsOpen source

As of 2026-08-03

What gets expensive

Credits are the second currency and they only run one way. An email address costs at most one credit, a verified phone number more. Exporting a contact out of the system consumes credits too, so the way out is part of the consumption. Under the terms the subscription fee follows the credits purchased rather than those used, it is neither cancellable nor refundable within the current term, and unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle with no rollover. Overestimating demand means paying twice. The second jump sits in procurement: single sign-on starts on Organization, which lifts entry from USD 49 to USD 119 per seat per month with a three-seat minimum.

What it displaces

  • Separate subscriptions for a contact database, sequence sending and call recording
  • Manual address research through company websites and network profiles
  • Contact lists in spreadsheets that nobody maintains after three months

Interfaces

  • CSV import and CSV export
  • Connections to Salesforce and HubSpot
  • API for enrichment, with wider use only on the custom plan
  • Browser extension for Chrome
  • Mailbox connection for Google and Microsoft, other providers only on paid plans
  • MCP connection

Matching methods

  • Predictable Revenue / Cold Calling 2.0The method separates research, first contact and closing into distinct roles, and Apollo supplies the research stage with the address base and filters without which such a team never fills its first list.
  • Warm Outreach EngineThe method needs a repeatable loop of list, sequence and follow-up in one place, and those three steps sit in the same interface here.
  • Lead Scoring: Best Leads to Best ClosersRouting by win probability presupposes that attributes exist per contact at all, and Apollo supplies those attributes along with its own scoring function straight from the database.
