Build it yourself

People who build search differently. Not "which off-the-shelf product do I buy" but what do I build with, what do I build out of, and may the result be used in operations at all. This page shows exactly the tools you build with and out of.

The question that decides over years

Does code remain at the end that belongs to you and that another person can maintain, or does what you built live on only inside the platform where it was made. Every build tool here carries that statement in its profile. It matters more than any feature list, and no vendor answers it voluntarily.

Clay

Clay Labs Inc · enrichment and signal processing

A list of companies or people rarely carries the attributes you actually decide on. Clay is the workbench where you assemble those attributes, query several data sources in sequence and put your own scoring logic on top.

Paddle

Paddle.com Market Ltd · merchant of record

Resells your software in its own name and thereby becomes the buyer's contractual counterparty. Registration, calculation, remittance and liability for indirect tax in foreign jurisdictions then sit with the vendor rather than with the software company.

Langfuse

Langfuse GmbH, Berlin (owned by ClickHouse, Inc. since 2026-01-16) · model call logging

Once you build language models into a product, you cannot see what the model was asked, what it answered, what the call cost, or whether a prompt change improved or degraded quality. Langfuse records every model call, versions the prompts and scores answers against fixed test cases.

Berrie AI Incorporated (BerriAI) · model gateway

What comes after building

Building is the short part. Operations, permissions, evidence and maintenance are the long one. Plan for it and building pays. Skip it and you have built a proof of concept while believing it is a system.

Frequently asked questions

Is this not just vibe coding?

That term means accepting a result without having read the code. Fine for an afternoon, not for a system a business depends on. We call it building it yourself, and we mean building with tools that leave behind code you can keep and review.

Do I need coding skills?

To build, not necessarily any more. To judge what comes out, yes. That is why every profile states where the result lands and whether it is portable, and why the second person in-house matters more than the tool.

When is buying the better decision?

When the process is broad, many users work in it, or the use has to be evidenced to auditors. Then the work a vendor sells along with the product is cheaper than retrofitting it yourself.

What does leaving a builder cost?

It depends on where what you built resides. We measured it ourselves: fully moving a website made with an AI builder to our own static build took about two weeks of work, not an export.
