# Lead Magnet Logic

> An effective lead magnet is the complete solution to one narrowly defined problem, which, once solved, reveals the next, paid problem. Half-solutions destroy trust; genuine mini-solutions build it.

## Problem

Your traffic converts poorly because the only available action is "book a call" or "request a demo", too big a step for the majority who are not yet ready to buy. Meanwhile, your existing downloads underperform because they tease instead of solving.

## Approach

1. Pick one narrowly defined sub-problem of your audience that sits upstream of the core problem.
2. Solve that sub-problem completely, as an assessment, calculator, template, audit, or mini-tool.
3. Build the magnet so that solving it reveals the next problem, the one your offer solves.
4. Take packaging and naming seriously and test them. They often drive demand more than the content does.
5. Serve the magnet only to qualified audiences and name the next step clearly.

## Example

A typical case: a B2B SaaS for process automation offers "request a demo" as its only form; conversion stays low. The team builds a free self-assessment that fully solves an upstream problem: it shows, in a structured way, where time is lost in the current process. The assessment's result reveals the next problem, automating exactly those spots and the transition into a sales conversation follows from the substance rather than from pressure.

## Limits

A lead magnet creates no demand where none exists. It translates existing interest into a smaller first step. Poor or half-hearted free deliverables act as a negative quality signal. Without qualification, an attractive magnet also attracts many contacts who will never become customers, the downstream costs must be factored in.

## Metric

Track conversion from traffic to magnet usage and from magnet usage to qualified conversation, not just the raw download count.
